Attention Tejas! (Austin)

An Austin transplant, and our Homie Murph (originally from Orange County CA) just opened his custom Rod, Detail, and Apparel shop. Go check him out at the grand opening shin dig, and tell him Coffin, and Johnny Wolf sent ya'!

You might recognize Murph's '50 Chevy. It's won trophys all over Cali, been in several magazine spreads, and photographed with Danny Trejo for De-Palma Clothing adds.

For more info pix, etc., check him out on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Murphos-Rods-and-Customs/160871050634410

Teddy Bear by Red Sovine

I used to hear this song when I was a little kid. We had a CB radio in our truck and camper, boat, and both cars. I had a base station in my room, and used to talk with my friends in the hood, and the truckers that were makin' their way up and down the Grapevine Interstate 5. Good times before cell phones, and video games.

Top 10 motorcycles of all time.

By David Booth, MSN Autos

The Sportster has been the mainstay of Harley-Davidson's lineup since 1957 when the brand introduced the overhead-valve XL engine. Now available in both 883 and 1200-cc variants, the original 883-cc was considered something of a hot-rod muscle-bike when it replaced the flathead K series, ironic since today the 883 Sportster is considered Harley-Davidson's entry-level machine.

Nonetheless, the Sportster name is the most iconic in Harley's lineup, aided in no small measure by the popularity of the '60s TV show Then Came Bronson which starred actor Michael Parks riding a Sportster. In its long history, the Sportster spawned many "specials" including the XLCR café racer, the XR1000 emulating the company's hugely-successful dirt-track racers and the '50s and '60s XLCH ("Competition Hot") hot-rod.

The next trend in paint?

Somewhere here in the Asphalt Squadron blogosphere, and in conversation amongst friends, I've been saying for the past year that this will be the next "thing" in paint. Flake and lace is, and has been played out for some time. Tape shades, low rider style...whatever you want to call it, is in. I also predict 80's pastel graphics not far behind as well (eeesh!).

Something else not see too often is a custom painted OEM frame. I think they went a little over the top with the fork lowers, but hey....it ain't mine.
